Sustainable travel is a concept that is catching on worldwide. All of us want to do our bit to save the environment and be more mindful travelers while enjoying the places we visit. If you want to travel responsibly and sustainably, investing in good eco-friendly travel products is something you can look into. These last longer and are better for the environment.
Even responsible packing can reduce the waste that you leave behind, while also preserving the culture and respecting the local communities and their practices. It can even have a positive impact on your carbon footprint. So go green right from the packing stage.
The choices you make now, no matter how big or small, will make a difference tomorrow and every bit counts. That’s why we have to all start travelling responsibly.
To help you with this, I’ve put together the ultimate responsible travel packing list that you can refer to the next time you plan your trip.
#1 Reusable metal water bottle

To significantly cut down on single-use plastic bottles during your trip, switch to using metal sippers or flasks. These are environment-friendly, reusable and preserve hot/cold drinks accordingly.

#2 Reusable bag
We use our shopping bags while visiting the supermarket instead of plastic bags that were earlier in use and we can extend this to carrying and using the reusable cloth bags while we’re on vacation too. It helps when we step out to buy groceries or to purchase other items.

You’ll find a variety of designs and combos here.
# 3 Biodegradable Trash bags
Trash/waste is one of the most polluting items for the environment. When we collect all our waste items to be thrown, we end up dumping these into plastic bags and this needs to change. You can instead opt for bags made from plants which are biodegradable are great for the environment.

#4 Reusable Straws

Whenever we’re in a restaurant/bar enjoying a cocktail or sitting on a beach sipping Mai Tais, have you ever noticed that the glass you drink from uses plastic straws more often than not? Conscious consumers can switch to metal straws or plant-based straws or even bamboo straws as well.

# 5 Biodegradable Wet Wipes

Wet wipes are very handy when on vacation but the commercial brands use the plastic kind. You can switch to biodegradable wet wipes instead.

# 7 Toiletries in reusable bottles

Instead of carrying around your toiletries (lotions, moisturisers, shampoos, conditioners, etc.) in the original packaging, you can transfer them into smaller, travel sized bottles or containers that can be reused on your next trip.

# 8 Rechargeable batteries

Nowadays, a lot of people carry around DSLRs and SLRs with them to get those Insta-worthy photographs. If you’re one of these people then you could consider using rechargeable batteries for your cameras or other electronics instead of single-use ones.

See you in the next one!
