Loving yourself is the first step to loving everything around you and the work you do. It is important to stop and just breathe! Selfcare is the first step to living a holistic life.
Taking care of your mental, spiritual & physical wellbeing is pivotal to succeeding in your life
We all need a break or think about taking one all the time. There are times when we wish, we all could disconnect and just be! Self-care is an important way to build a healthy relationship with self and with our body.
A few of the many benefits of self-care are- better productivity, better immunity, confidence and empathy.
To love yourself is to find something that you enjoy doing and that will relax you. As they say different strokes for different folks!
Here are a few practices which you can adopt for Self- care that will make you appreciate yourself and nourish you mentally & physically.
Few self-care practices that you can adopt are-
# 1 Disconnect

Sometimes you need to disconnect from social media to connect with yourself. The constant buzzing of notifications on our social media app has increased our screen time drastically, which means more blue light exposure.
Science has shown the increase in blue light exposure leads to poor sleep and that in turn leads to even further burnout.
With more time in your hand, you will be able to find time for things that you have fun doing.
It will help you be more creative with your time or will simply help you to focus on yourself.

# 2 Read
We all have a book that we have been meaning to read or have lying on our nightstand and never had the time to finish it. Now is the time!
Take out 15 mins during your day or an hour during the weekend to finish that book. It does not have to be all together at once, start slow and progress.
According to studies, when a person starts reading, the brain sends a calming signal to your body. Reading not relaxes your body but in ways enriches your mind.

#3 Pick up a hobby
Hobbies help us structure our time more efficiently. Having a hobby and being good at it or even learning something new helps us build confidence and be creative.
There is no right way to pursue a hobby, the idea is to enjoy the activity.
Spend time in nature, grow some vegetables in your backyard, learn to paint, learn a new sport, or as simple as being creative with your food and experiment in the kitchen.
The options are endless, and you do not have to stick to one.
# 4 Relax & Rejuvenate
This one is a personal favorite and there is no harm in pampering yourself twice in a week or maybe daily. We all know that we need our beauty sleep to rejuvenate.
Having said that, you will be surprised that a relaxing massage can do wonders for your body & mind. Pick a mix of essential oils & base oil and let it do the magic!

The other way you can relax every day is by including a night time regime. It could be as simple as indulging in skincare or lighting up candles and soaking yourself in a warm bath.

- Lavender Epsom Salt
- Some love for your Hair
- Scented Candles – Fill some fragrance in your life
#5 Plan a date with your friends
Friendships do not magically last for 40 years; you need to invest in them!
Time to time we all get busy in our work lives and our day to day hustles. Over the years we tend to build an extended family, who we call our BFFs.
Sometimes it is just a conversation or a light-hearted catch-up with them that can relax our souls.
Having said that, during these times it is difficult to meet people in person, so why not use Zoom or Skype apart from work to have a virtual date with your girls.
#6 Ditch the scale
As they say, the more you weigh, the harder you are to kidnap. So, stay Safe & Eat Cake 😊
Jokes apart, we all have suffered from body image issues and have obsessed over our weight now and then. Every time the scale goes up, we decide to punish ourselves and deprive our bodies so that we can feel good about a number on the machine.
The truth is that we need to stop stressing and be more accepting.
Indulge in a dessert or your favorite comfort food occasionally. You will not only nourish your body, but you will be nourishing your soul as well.
You deserve to celebrate yourself and you need no excuses to do so.
#7 Daily affirmations
Daily affirmations are the self-care trick that you can start your day with and eventually build it to be a habit.
Affirmations can be as simple as looking in the mirror and saying ‘I believe in me’, or ‘I chose me’. Start with simple affirmations and over a period you can add goals.
Always remember, a little progress each day adds up to BIG results
#8 Declutter/ Organize
We underestimate the power of organizing our environment. It could be as simple as organizing your desk or your cupboards. Funnily enough, decluttering a physical space also helps to declutter your mind.
The entire exercise creates a calming effect and releases negative emotions.
Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds.
# BONUS TIP-
Stretch a little, take deep breaths and phewww, Let Go! It is as simple as it sounds.
Few things in life are out of our control, and the best thing we can do is accept them. Always believe that in yourself and believe that the best is yet to come.
Like Steve jobs said ‘You cannot connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that dots will somehow connect in your future’.
